Anthropic’s $80B loss has a catch

Anthropic reportedly lost $80.7 billion in six months. Most of that was an accounting charge, according to draft IPO documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

  • The loss is not the same as cash spent. A roughly $72 billion charge came from changes in the value of financing deals.

  • The real question: can revenue keep up with the cost of running and expanding its AI?
